Dustin was born in Illinois, and at the age of seven his family moved to Albany, Georgia where he was raised. Dustin earned his undergraduate degree, with a major in accounting, from The University of Georgia in May of 1999. As a recipient of the UGA Law School Alumni Scholarship, Dustin remained in Athens and continued his education by enrolling in law school at The University of Georgia.

While at law school, Dustin was selected for membership in the GEORGIA LAW REVIEW, an organization which publishes a highly respected legal journal. Dustin served as an Editorial Board Member on the law review and, in his second year, served as a Notes Editor where he managed the editing process of several student members. During law school, Dustin worked as a teaching assistant for Professor O. Lee Reed's undergraduate Business Law course, for Professor Dan T. Coenen's law school Contracts course, and for Professor Paul J. Heald's law school Contracts course. In the spring of 2002, Dustin graduated from the law school Summa Cum Laude and was selected for membership in the Order of the Coif.

Dustin then began his legal career at a nationally recognized trial firm based in Columbus, Georgia. While there, Dustin worked on a variety of cases ranging from personal injury car wrecks, on the one hand, to more complex actions including sophisticated nationwide consumer class actions and multi-defendant products liability cases, on the other. Dustin passed the state bar exams in Georgia and Alabama and is admitted to both states. Dustin has also been admitted to practice in several other state courts pro hac vice, and he is admitted to practice in the federal courts for the Middle District of Georgia, the Northern District of Georgia, the Northern District of Alabama, the Middle District of Alabama, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dustin is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the America Association for Justice, and the America Bar Association. Dustin co-authored the annual survey of Trial Practice and Procedure published by the Mercer Law Review from 2002 through 2005, and he has assisted with the coaching of the Columbus High School mock trial team for the past four years.

Dustin and his wife, Lynn, have two young daughters and are actively involved in the Columbus community. They reside in mid-town Columbus, in the neighborhood where Lynn was born and raised.
